A Magical Sunset Proposal at Glen Beach: Rowen & Jamie’s Love Story

Few moments in life are as magical as a surprise proposal at sunset. When Rowen reached out, he had one goal: to create an unforgettable moment for Jamie, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Glen Beach in Cape Town. As a proposal photographer in Cape Town, I had the absolute honour of capturing their love story as it unfolded in the golden hour glow.

Planning the Perfect Proposal at Glen Beach

Glen Beach, nestled between Clifton and Camps Bay, offers a more intimate setting away from the crowds, making it an ideal location for a romantic proposal. Rowen wanted the moment to feel natural and deeply personal, so we planned every detail carefully—from the exact spot on the beach to the best timing for that dreamy sunset lighting.

On the evening of the proposal, the sky was painted with hues of pink, orange, and gold. The waves gently kissed the shore, creating a serene, picturesque scene. Jamie thought they were simply doing a couple photoshoot for their 7th year anniversary (which also happened to fall on Valentine's Day), but little did she know, a life-changing moment was about to happen.

Every year, on their anniversary, they each have a chance to surprise each other with an anniversary celebration. Last year, Jamie surprised Rowen with a shark cage diving experience, so she was curious to see how he would be able to “top it” this year.

The Big Moment

As they walked along the soft sand, Rowen paused, took Jamie’s hands, and shared heartfelt words that left her teary-eyed. Then, in a beautiful, unscripted moment, he dropped to one knee and asked the question that would change their lives forever. Jamie’s reaction was pure joy—tears of happiness, laughter, and an overwhelming “YES!” echoed against the ocean breeze.

After the proposal, we embraced the golden hour for a relaxed couple’s photoshoot. With Table Mountain in the distance and the sun dipping below the horizon, Rowen and Jamie danced, laughed, and soaked in their newly engaged bliss.
